The City of Nice organised a conference on the topic of ‘Culture and ecology towards a sustainable Mediterranean, on 28 and 29 November. The event was held on the official date of the World Mediterranean Day and brought together key players in the field of culture and sustainable transition in the Mediterranean, committed to implementing eco-responsible solutions based on cultural and societal resilience.
The Conference highlighted the efforts made within the City of Nice and its metropolis to tackle climate change, particularly in relation with sea rise threats and their consequences.
Discussions focused on cultural approaches raising awareness and developing collective and individual knowledge of the environmental threats facing the Mediterranean region.
Culture in the broadest sense of the term was explored in the course of these discussions, tackling topics such as management of natural sea and land sites, art, literature, philosophy, music, tourism and gastronomy, as parts of the overall eco-responsible change factors towards a sustainable transition for the region.
The event was organised as part of the ‘Cultivated Territories’ decentralised cooperation project, in partnership with the Agency for Sustainable Mediterranean Cities and Territories (AVITEM), and was attended by the participating local authorities and institutions. Its aim is to create Euro-Mediterranean synergies in the face of the contemporary cultural and climatic challenges facing the Mediterranean.
